With all the chaos and tension building in Kashmiri air, the remarks of Army chief General Bipin Rawat will go a long way in giving a sense of oneness amongst the army men and the Kashmiri.
In a recent interview, General Rawat said, “Army is not against the Kashmiris, our target is the terrorists and antisocial groups and we try to separate them”. He then added, “We know that not everyone is involved in these activities. There are only selected few that involve in violence and intend to influence others for the same. We try to identify and separate them”.
These words of the general come in a time when the army is busy in counter-insurgency operations in the valley, amidst the various terror attacks and incidents which have been striking the valley for a while now.
He also refused to the claims that the Army has returned to the Cordons and Search Operations in the valley as a part of the operations. CASO operations are a tactic in which an area is cordoned and searched for weapons and insurgents. Reports suggested that Army would perform more CASO operations in more than 15 villages of the Shopian district. More than 4000 army men of Rashtriya Rifles were involved.
